Oh joy

Friday, March 30th, 2007

So I’m facing the unfortunate prospect of my grandparents coming to visit us (And stay in our front yard in their Winnebago for upwards of two/three weeks) some time during the middle of April. Possibly earlier.

And on the 14th I’ve got a birthday party to attend, which will be for the most part a decent sized congregation of goths and weirdos. So that’s going to certainly be fun, having to deal with all the goddamn comments and remarks from parents and grandparents at the same time.

I’m also expecting some hassling over my hair as well. I intend fully on growing it long. Grandparents will not agree a huge amount I’m guessing.

Music will have to be kept to headphones. I seriously doubt they’re going to appreciate all that ‘infernal devil music’ that I listen to. Grandmother being a devout Christian and all.

Not only that, I’m going to most likely sit through numerous discussions with my grand dad about my apprenticeship, him telling me how I should work etc, yadda yadda yadda.

I also have the presentation night in April aswell, when I’ll receive my bits of signed fancy paper from my traineeship. And my grandparents insist on being there aswell. Joyous moments abound…

This household is about to get very awkward. Grandparents don’t know my Sister is in a gay relationship. Grandparents, heck, not even my parents know about all the ‘alternative’ things I’m fond of.

I think I might just go into the city tommorow. I need to buy myself a pair of leather arm bracers that I’ve had my eyes on, and a new shirt or pants or something. Going into the city with dear Liz in a week or two to go buy a new jacket (I’ve outgrown my old one, but it fits Liz perfectly so she’ll likely end up with it) and do some general mallratting.

Speaking of which, Mallrats is a brilliant movie, if you haven’t already seen it. I’ve seen it quite a few times in the last 5-10 years. Blame my sister.

And now for something completely different, I might listen to a bit of Sigur Ros and head to bed.

I am bored and on a bus and must blog.

Really hectic day at work today. Normally where I work there is three data/telecomms technicians around doing things, then the senior project manager, and then the boss. Well, two of the technicians were away today, and the project manager dude is incredibly ill. So the one remaining senior technician is covering for him, and guess who them has to cover for the other two technicians? Little old me, the apprentice.

I think I handled myself alright, got a lot of work done, but it would have been nicer to have more in the way of a rest throughout the day. My back is absolutely killing me and one of my knees kept trying to give way under me all arvo.

And I have discovered something, I rock at sucking up to customers.

What better way of testing blog posting via mms than with PIE! :-D

Image015.jpg

Edit: Well, that was done from my phone, hence crappy photo quality (Compounded further by resizing done in-between). But this has the problem that my images aren’t automaticly uploaded to flickr, and that the image then gets stored in a completly different place. Booo. My kingdom for a unified mobile blog posting, image uploading, arse kicking system! I wonder what blog posting from my phones web browser would be like… Painful would be my guess…

Perhaps this is something that will suck a whole lot less when next-gen camera/smart/mobile phones reach the market such as the long rumored Google phone, Nokia’s next gen offerings, and the iPhone. Actually mobile blog-assaults sound all the more enticing on something like the iPhone. Especially if a carrier like 3 or Optus get their grubby mittens on it in Australia, what with their far-supperior-than-telstra’s GPRS rates.

Heck, uploading photos by MMS, and then doing a post from the comfort of home is sufficing so-far. If I could do that and post an entry without using this cludgey post-by-email (including the attached image) plugin, I’d be in love instantly. Ohwell, I lie, I already am in love. Who am I kidding? I’m a web 2.0 whore.

Speaking of web 2.0 whoring, I’ve got plans up my sleeve for the TTD community, planet.tt-forums, Linkage, and perhaps even GRFCrawler. Still plans for the moment, shall have to see how things pan out.

Anyways, enjoy ur spam planet.tt-f.

Mwah, roadtrip

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I admit it, I’m guilty of mobloging now. Okay, technically I’m writing this from the comfort of my computer, I would have hammered out a blog post on the road, but I was roaming on the edge, not on 3g, so eh, twas farked.

Anyway, went on a bit of a roadtrip today, building up hours for my L plates log-book. I’ve now got enough day-time hours, just need something like 6 hours of night-time driving and I can go and sit TEH TEST OF DOOM! Also need to practice reverse parallel parking. I’m sure I’ll rape it into submission like I have every other form of parking thrown at me.

Victor harbor Enough ranting, roadtrip details: Went from home out to Cape Jervis. Didn’t photograph anything, was too much road and not enough stopping space. Not really anything except for ocean to photograph anyway. Booooring. Nice road to drive down though. Got to Victor harbor, drove for a bit, wasted time with boring-arse parking practice. Raped and pillaged all challenges set before me, so we then buggered off to Goolwa. On the way I snapped the photo to the left of the view from some of the more suburban area. Remember kiddies, this is a good 40-100km from home. Yes. South Australia is big… And, yes, arsey photo. Needed to be a bit higher up to see anything clearly. Pity that ideal spot was two streets over and I was already too damn impatient to keep moving. Ohwell. Shit happens.

Got to Goolwa next. Boring little place, until we got to Hindmarsh Island bridge, which is bloody steep for such a small bridge. Putted around on Hindmarsh Island. Place is a barren little crap-hole interspersed with giant waterfront housing estates for the rich and stupid. Pick and mix those two as you wish. On the way back took a couple of photos of the surroundings and the bridge heading back.

Goolwa Bridge

At that point we actually started finding decent stuff to look at. On the way back over I looked over to my left and saw a cute little train line going under the bridge. Pulled over not too long after and snapped the following:

Chair Goolwa train station Cottage

Bridge, again Railway Goolwa station

That’s it. I’m bored of writing. Show’s over. Piss off.
